Training in the backyard of the teacher's home is an age-old tradition in the Filipino martial arts, one that emphasizes the very strong tribal/familial relationships that the best master teachers seek to have with their chosen students.
 
In contrast to the typical commercial martial arts school – where making money is generally the singular focus – the home of the master teacher is only ever opened to those who show themselves (by their actions, not their practiced words or their willingness to open their wallets) to be serious and dedicated students.

After more than 45 years of teaching in commercial spaces, Guro Mark Mikita is reviving that tradition.
